Hey, golfchick…
Heard about you, just found you. Incredible site. Thanks.
I am the handicap chairman at my club in Maryland (Yes, I have played Whisky Creek). I always ‘thought’ I understood handicaps, USGA indexes, etc., but I really did not. I also found out very few golfers actually do.
Let’s have some fun. You say your January 2008 index is 17.0. Is it really? Answer these questions and we shall see.
(We will assume when we say ‘play’, it means we followed the rules of golf, tried our best to make our best score, etc.)
1. Did you post EVERY eligible round played?
2. If you played 13 holes, should you post a full 18 hole score?
3. If you played 7 holes, should you post a 9-hole score?
4. If you had a 10 footer for par and your opponent birdied the hole with a 3 and conceded your putt, what score should you put on your card?
5. In the same match as #4, on a par three you hit two shots OB and your opponent hits it within inches. You concede her (his) putt. What should you put on your scorecard?
6. Your club has a 36-hole medal play qualifier for it’s womens club championship, should you post it as a tournament “T” score?
7. You are a little hungover on vacation and blow up to a 125 one round. That score will never be one of your ‘lowest 10 scores of your past 20’ so you do not post it. Can such a high score conceivably affect your monthly index?
8. What happens if you only play 11 holes?
The answers 1) Yes; 2) Yes; 3) Yes; 4) 5; 5) 7; 6) Yes; 7) Yes; 8) Post a 9-hole score only. If you answered any of these incorrectly, your index is probably not 100% accurate.
I am also a Tiger-maniac. It is too embarrassing to reveal more than that. It has almost gotten to the point I will not watch regular tournaments. My 26 year-old son avoids me in the clubhouse when a major is on TV. He tells me I am obnoxious.
Good luck. Next time I’ll tell you about my three lesbian golfing girlfriends (all low index golfers) My real girlfriend is a good sport.

It’s not a hosting problem, it’s a wordpress issue on my end which won’t change if I move.
