I’m looking for a field of dreams in Nebraska. Well, maybe a track of dreams. Well, I guess it doesn’t have to be cut right out of the corn, either. Starting to get the picture?
Somewhere in the middle of all that corn, there must be golf in Nebraska. They said in Iowa (where the actual “field of dreams” is) there was more corn than people and I managed to find a great little muni course I liked there.
I don’t think I have any regular readers from Nebraska, but I sure would appreciate some recommendations in the Omaha area before next week. In my experience, when it comes to public courses, the most expensive course isn’t always the best. Besides, I can find those listings on the internet, but I’d like to know about the hidden gems or underrated courses and play like the locals. Can anyone help me out?

I’d reccommend this place. Short course, super cheap, no trees (It’s Nebraska!), and a corn field on one side of it. I played it back in the ’90s when my brother lived out there.

Thanks, unda.
Looks like fun. If I can sneak in another nine I just might play it. I’d like to play a full 18 hole course as well.

Probably too late to help you, but if you’re ever BACK in Nebraska, I HIGHLY recommend Wild Horse Golf Course in Gothenburg…
If you want a “Field of Dreams” experience, combined with a FUN, REASONABLY priced, yet high-end golf experience, you need to travel a bit and head to Wild Horse in Gothenburg…
It’s not the easiest to find, and you actually approach the course on a gravel/dirt road (which only adds to the charm, unless you just washed your car – but you can see the approaching golfers by the dust plume), but once you’re there, the course is at LEAST as much fun as Sand Hills in Mullen, NE, but MUCH, MUCH cheaper – and public, too!!!
If you like Rustic Canyon, and the ‘minimalist’ approach that’s become popular in the last ten years, you’ll LOVE Wild Horse!
The greens are challenging, the fairways were immaculate this last July, and the scenery is tranquil and serene…
There’s plenty of natural “gorse” and brush to keep your shotmaking true, but the silence is truly deafening, and the chirping and beauty of the local birds is amazing…
This was truly a spiritual experience, as I went out with my Father-In-Law, and he drove the cart and we shared a couple of beers, and I played by myself for about four holes, and then met up with two really nice older guys for the rest of the round, and we had an AWESOME afternoon of FUN, FUN, golf…
HIGHLY recommended!!! *****
