2014 Masters Pin Flag Prize Winner

We have a winner! No, I’m not talking about Gerald Lester Watson. I’m talking about the winner of our 2014 embroidered Masters pin flag giveaway contest.

Thanks to everyone who took time to enter the contest. I had fun reading everyone’s entries.

Choosing the winner was a difficult decision. I mean, Morris Wormell wrote an incredible and LONG piece of fiction. Some people thought he should just win probably based on length alone. If I thought he wrote it just for this blog, I think we’d have HAD to choose him.

Then there was Courtney, who had my FAVORITE comment, which was simply “Stupid Bubba.”  Unfortunately, that was entered after the tournament was over, so was ineligible.

And Janis, who was an early entry with a brilliant kiss ass comment – Janis, you almost had me, but I was looking for something more Masters related. I did enjoy your post tournament comment, too. :)

AND THE WINNER IS………………… SEAN, from Ottawa. Congrats, Sean @hugegolfhacker!

Sean wrote:

“I have been trying for many years to get tics for the masters and no luck. I would loveto go. Actually why am i even bothering typing more after seeing Morris’ post above. That breaks a record for longest internet post that I have ever seen! Just give him the flag, unless he was rude in his post (too long for me to read). Would love to see Bubba watson choke today, dont like the way he treats his caddie. Thx”

We chose Sean because he seems like a big Masters fan, generous (wanted someone else to win), anti-troll, and kind to Ted Scotts. :) Way to go, Sean! Enjoy your Masters flag, and please feel free to post a pic on The Golfchick Facebook page when you get it.

And thanks, once again to MMOGolf.com for providing the giveaway.

2014 Masters Pin Flag Giveaway

Who wants a 2014 Masters Embroidered Golf Pin Flag from Augusta National? I know I do! And here’s your chance to win one!

As you may have noticed, this blog has not exactly been active lately. I’ve been planning to get back to it but sadly it’s taken a back seat to some other endeavors lately. With my excitement over The Masters, I figured I’d take this opportunity to jumpstart those plans. Giveaways seem like a lame ploy for traffic and comments, but it’s a Masters flag!

The good people at MMOGolf.com are providing the flag to a lucky winner (and one to me – yay!) in exchange for this blog post, some social media promotion and this link to their site: MMOGolf.com

If you like Masters memorabilia, definitely check them out. They have all kinds of great swag from Augusta!
You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter.

How to enter

All you need to do to enter is comment on this blog post with your thoughts about The Masters. It can be anything – why it’s the best major (or not – WHAT?),  what The Masters means to you, a story about your trip there, what you’d give to go watch the tournament or play the course, your prediction of who will win – you get the idea. The comment can be as short or long as you want. Entries must include your email (so I can contact you if you win) and must be received before the last putt sinks at Augusta at the end of Masters Sunday (April 13, 2014). Feel free to leave your twitter handle in the comment, too. You’ll get a shoutout if you win, and maybe even if you don’t. :)

How to win

Well, it’s pretty subjective. You just have to write the post that I and my staff (ahem) like the best.  My friends may weigh in as well. If you’ve been reading this blog or following me on social media for any length of time, you have an advantage because you probably understand what I like and my sense of humor better than someone who doesn’t. I could choose anything from something poignant and lengthy to something quick and dirty that makes me laugh or anywhere in between.

That’s it. We’ll go over the entries and choose a winner after The Masters hangover wears off. I’ll announce the winner here and across my social media accounts, and email the winner directly for shipping information. Good luck, and HAPPY MASTERS WEEK!

Royal and Awesome Contest Winners Announcement!

We had some fun photo entries over on The Golf Chick Facebook page for the Royal and Awesome golf attire contest! Thanks to all who played and voted! I also appreciate the likes, votes, emails and tweets about who should win. They may have influenced my decision, but ultimately, I just picked who I picked. I may have mentioned this was going to be an arbitrary, not mathematical, contest! :)

So, without further ado… here are the winners:

John Snider …… wins a pair of trousers! (Multiple entries that were all fun but my favorite was the cart in the muck! Don’t drink and drive, kids, don’t even putt.)

Steve Antilla ….. wins a pair of shorts! (Within inches of an ace. If we all had shorts for every one of those…!)

Fiona Payne ….. wins a cap! (Amazing 40′ putt, but to snap a photo and see the track on the green? Royally awesome!)

Congratulations to all! Email me at kristen (at) thegolfchick (dot) com and I we can sort out the fulfillment details. I hope when you receive them you’ll post pics back on the FB page or send them to me so I can share them. Thanks again for playing, and enjoy your new duds!

Contest Time – Who Wants Some Royal and Awesome Golf Attire?

Want some free golf apparel? I have some to give away to a few readers!

The London 2012 Olympics looked like a roaring success. If you follow me on the twitters, you probably know that the electricity I saw in the street interviews and the interaction from the international community on social media was lost in translation for me due to the double time delay by NBC. By the time any of the games actually aired here in Southern California, I’d seen the results as well as reactions, descriptions and commentary from the live airing and the East Coast USA airing. As a consequence, I didn’t watch much of the games even when I turned them on, and with a lack of attention, it’s hard to get caught up in the emotion and enthusiasm. Why the Olympic digression in this golf apparel contest post? Well, if you saw the men’s beach volleyball, you surely didn’t miss the US team’s loud attire! They were sponsored and dressed by Loudmouth Golf, designer of some of the most unmistakable looks you’ll find on a golf course. It used to be if you saw a bright, loud design, you’d think “oh, that’s Loudmouth!” Now, you may have to think again.

That’s Not Loudmouth

While the United States brings us the USGA and Loudmouth Golf, Europe brings us the R&A and Royal and Awesome golf trousers. Both apparel companies’ products are available internationally. Only one sent me samples that I am now going to pass along to you! That would be…

Royal and Awesome golf trousers! “For the pars and the bars.”

R and A trews

They don’t seem to make or sell women’s styles yet but I have one of each of the above (not those exact styles) to give away. Want to win a pair of trousers, shorts or a hat?

How to enter

Let me know over on my golfchick facebook page that you want one of them by posting a picture of something wild, fun & interesting on a golf course. Can be your own outfit, a crazy face, bizarre lie, weird or funny shrubbery… you get the idea. Be sure to indicate your desire for some Royal and Awesome swag! Once I get enough to choose from, I’ll select some winners and we can discuss it further here in the comments and/or over there. This is a totally casual, loose contest, entirely subjective to however I decide to choose (I may be influenced!) so just have fun with it and be creative! Hope to see you there!

Oh, and if for some reason you don’t want to win, I still encourage you to join in and share some crazy pics! :)

UPDATE: Royal and Awesome stopped in on my FB post and let us know they’ve got women’s pieces coming out in early September! Also, as of noon today (8/15), not a single entry has been submitted to win these. That makes me sad. No one wants to win??? I will update this post if/when the prizes are gone, so unless you see it, the contest is still open!

UPDATE: Good news: the contest for the Royal & Awesome duds is still going on, and the nice people there have told me you’ll be able to pick your style & size (including new women’s line and larger men’s sizes coming out next week)!

So keep those pics coming on TGC Facebook page. And please help me decide on winners by clicking like and commenting on others!

There will be 3 winners, one pair of pants, one shorts or skort, and one hat!

Join The Golf Chick at the Mesquite Amateur!

It’s official! I had so much fun playing in the last two Mesquite Amateur tournaments, I decided to join forces with the Mesquite Am and The Golf Chick is now one of this fabulous event’s sponsors. And the best news is what’s in it for YOU.

Fun & Games & Prizes
There will be a “tournament within the tournament” for all Mesquite Am participants who sign up as part of The Golf Chick group. You still get paired up and play on the appropriate course according to your gender and handicap, but your scores will also be counted in a separate contest which will provide special prizes for individual women, men and couples winners. Look out for some fun, bonus side games as well – you may be awarded for unusual accomplishments for your play (or style) throughout the event!

Plus – everyone who signs up as a Golf Chick participant by March 31st will be entered into a drawing – one lucky winner will have their entire hotel stay comped for the event!

And – everyone who signs up as a Golf Chick participant will receive a special bonus swag package – in addition to your usual Mesquite Am swag!

But there’s still more – Meet the rest of the Golf Chick participants at the dinner event the first night with our premium reserved seating for our group! We’ll also have a drawing for all Golf Chick participants right then and there – the winner will receive a special golf gift that just might come in handy for the tournament! We know you’ll be making new friends and maybe reconnecting with others so after the first night, we won’t bother to reserve seats for the group but we can sit together wherever we want.

What’s the catch? – THERE ISN’T ONE! None of this costs a penny more than if you signed up without all these bonuses. And take it from someone who has finished this event in dead freaking last – you can’t lose! Even if you lose – you’ll go home happy with a bunch of great memories, gifts and new friends.

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP, AND SIMPLY WRITE “GOLF CHICK” in the “how did you hear of the event” or the “promo code” box of the registration form to get in on all the specials.

Can’t wait to see you there! Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions, comments or just want to let me know I’ll be seeing you there! You can get me on twitter @TheGolfChick or e-mail me at Kristen (at) TheGolfChick (dot) com.

FYI:  If you already registered and didn’t write “Golf Chick” in the comments, you can still get in on this if you let us know you you forgot, the box wasn’t available, or you otherwise heard about the tournament from The GolfChick (website, flyer, ad, etc.) but didn’t know about the code.

About the Mesquite Am

Entering its 9th year of competition, the Mesquite Amateur is one of the largest handicapped amateur tournaments in the nation. Located in Mesquite, NV (about an hour from Las Vegas), The Mesquite Amateur consists of a five-day 54-hole, net, stroke play tournament. Participants compete against a field of players with a similar handicap, and play is governed by USGA rules. Finalist rankings will be determined by comparing the three-day cumulative score. The top four participants from each flight will complete in the 18-hole championship round.

Hitting Fairways + Greens: Contest!

The latest issue of Fairways + Greens is out now. Actually, it has been out for awhile but I’ve been negligent about posting this. They call it the “pink issue,” and it displays Paula Creamer – the Pink Panther – on the cover. It covers many topics related to women’s golf, and an entire section called “Girl-friendly Golf” starting on page 58, with an article called “Where the Girls Are” authored by myself and Katharine Dyson. F+G is a magazine primarily distributed in the West and Southwest United States and can be found at most golf courses and retailers in those areas. Otherwise, you can read it online here.

Play and win

Now comes the contest part. The article is broken up by recommended golf courses, some of which were written by me and some by Ms. Dyson. Can you tell which is which? Prizes will go to the first three people to submit comments on this post that correctly identify which courses I wrote up for the article. I have been told it’s easy to spot my writing, but you can also try to surmise the answers based on courses I’ve actually played, which can be found on this site. I hope you’ll participate, and good luck to all!

As for the prizes, I have three of the same item that were generously donated for this purpose. I haven’t written about this particular product yet, but it’s something I enjoy immensely and is appropriate for the nature of this contest. It is gender-neutral item. Stay tuned for more to come!

Update 7/17/08: I’m embarrassed to report that none of the answers submitted were correct. They were close, though, and I appreciate the participants who entered. With that in mind, I will be awarding two of the prizes to Rob and Eric “speedcat” Hollydale and one to an offline player who read the magazine, immediately chose the correct courses and inspired this contest.  Rob and Eric, please email the address where you want your prize sent to me at kristen(at)thegolfchick(dot)com. I will be publishing a new post soon about the prize itself.

For the record, the correct answers were: Turtle Bay, Four Seasons Aviara, and Osprey Meadows at Tamarack. (My experience at Monarch Beach was that it was overrated, overpriced, under-maintained, and less than welcoming for a “resort course.”)
